Food Well Alliance is a collaborative network of local leaders working together to build thriving community gardens and urban farms.

Our mission is to provide resources and support to local growers to connect and build healthier communities. Our vision is for an Atlanta that is locally grown and community connected.

In 2015, Jim Kennedy—Chairman Emeritus of Cox Enterprises and Chairman of the James M. Cox Foundation—and Bill Bolling, founder of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, had an idea to build healthier communities across metro Atlanta by connecting and supporting members of our local food movement. Food Well Alliance exists to bring this vision to life. Today, we support more than 300 community gardens, urban farms and orchards in metro Atlanta.

Food Well Alliance has engaged thousands of people annually around the issues of local food and has provided more than $15 million in direct resources to local growers across our 5-county service area. We have turned farmers into entrepreneurs, community gardeners into vocal neighborhood leaders, and citizens into champions for healthy soil.

Food Well Alliance advances its mission through three focus areas:

Grower Resources

We provide centralized support to help community gardens, farms, and orchards thrive. Since 2015, we’ve equipped local growers with essential tools for success, including technical assistance, training, tractor support, grants, labor teams, volunteers, compost, seedlings, and more.

Local Food System Planning

In parternship with the Atlanta Regional Commission, we convene policymakers, residents, growers, and community leaders to develop local food system plans. Since 2019, we’ve partnered with seven municipalities across metro Atlanta and continue to expand annually.

Community Education

We collaborate with a variety of partners to offer year-round learning experiences for all ages and skill levels–from our K-12 compost program to outdoor events, volunteer opportunities, and workshops. Topics include soil health, fruit tree care, gardening, composting, beekeeping, and more.
