Whether you’re looking to volunteer at a community garden, connect with local growers, or learn more about urban agriculture, there are plenty of ways to get hands-on through the rest of summer. Here are a few events happening in August.


Community Bucket FeedATL Summer Series
August 14 & 28

There are still plenty of opportunities to participate in the FeedATL summer series! Don’t miss the next two opportunities to help out local farmers. On August 14, visit Mena’s Farm where you’ll help out Mena DeAndrade with harvesting summer crops and pulling weeds. Next up, visit Metro Atlanta Urban Farm to help with the construction of their first-ever crop maze! Visit Community Bucket to sign up.

Aglanta Grows-A-Lot Campbellton Community Garden Volunteer Days
August 14, 19, 21, & 28

Come help turn an empty lot into a beautiful, food-producing green space for the community! Campbellton Community Garden is the first pilot site for the Aglanta Grows-A-Lot program, a program focused on transforming a vacant lot into a food-producing asset for the neighborhood. Peach State Pollinators Webinar
August 18

Want to make your garden a pollinator’s paradise? Need help identifying insect species? Join Food Well Alliance and UGA Entomology Professor Carmen Blubaugh for the Peach State Pollinators Workshop August 18 at 7pm! You’ll learn best practices for introducing pollinators into your garden, how to identify insect species, and integrated pest management techniques. Register for the webinar here.

Sowing the Seeds
August 17, 24, & 31

Harvest Gwinnett is hosting three August Sowing the Seeds days on Tuesdays from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. Get your hands dirty to help prep Gwinnett County community gardens for fall and learn how to effectively sow seeds to start your own vegetable garden! Great Georgia Pollinator Census
August 20 & 21

Join the statewide effort to count pollinators in the third annual Great Georgia Pollinator Census! The purpose of the project is to help create and add to sustainable pollinator habitats across the state. Count the pollinators that land on your favorite pollinator plant for 15 minutes and record your count on ggapc.org. There are also several census counting events happening throughout the two days. What’s Really In It: Know Your Labels
August 27 & 28

Have you ever wondered what Certified Organic and Non-GMO really mean? Then this Healthy Point workshop is perfect for you! Join the Label Presentation at Jefferson Park Recreation Center and attend the Grocery Store visit at the Carmia Drive Publix the next day to test your knowledge and learn more about local food. Farm Law Webinar
August 23
