The Garden School Seeks a Lead Teacher
/Visit here for full details.
The Garden School, a Waldorf-inspired nature program, seeks a lead teacher of grades 1-4 for its half-day elementary school. If you're an educator committed to hands-on, nature-rich learning that honors a child's need for movement, story and art, we're looking for someone like you!
We are seeking a warm, energetic, and focused educator to help us develop our small program. We are a nature-immersive Waldorf "forest school" program on a 15-acre forested campus with a stream, a pond, a wetland area, and soon, a 1/4-acre biodynamic garden with chickens and bees. Candidates should have a high comfort level for spending time outdoors, as most of the day will be spent in the woods or the garden.
Currently, in our inaugural year, we offer a forest kindergarten and traditional Waldorf subject classes for grades 1-6. In the fall, we intend to offer half-day options for grades 1-4 on a model that combines a parent co-op with a class teacher. Our new teacher will be able to help inform and shape the structure, along with the Director, the Board of Trustees, and the parents.
Although our budget is limited, compensating our faculty in a way that is locally competitive and accurately communicates our respect and esteem is a priority for us as we grow and develop.
We hope to identify a candidate by early February, and to develop the structure and curriculum together over email, phone, and video chat session through February and March. The teacher will attend week-long intensive training in March or April, based on their convenience (for which we will pay expenses and a modest stipend) and will begin their work on campus in July for summer camps.
When the school year starts, we expect that the new teacher would be alternating main lesson blocks among classes (1st & 2nd combined and 3rd & 4th combined), with parents in the co-op teaching the other blocks. The teacher will also have the support of subject teachers, administration, and a mentor with more than 25 years of Waldorf teaching experience.
If you think you may be right for us, and if this program may be right for your career and personal development goals, please submit a resume and letter of interest, which includes salary expectations and an explanation of your experience with or exposure to the Waldorf educational approach.
