In this December class, Compost Goals teaches composting as a vital link between soil health and sustainable agriculture. Participants will first discuss best compost bins and systems to use for home gardening. Afterwards we will briefly discuss the benefits and misconceptions of composting, signs of a healthy compost, and how to identify when your compost is out of balance. Finally we will brainstorm successful ways to gather additional compost materials for free or relatively cheap in your local area. Students will also have the opportunity to work with TLW's compost system at our Collegtown Farm site. In addition the following topics can be expected:
- Compost do's and don'ts
- What to do with kitchen scraps and vegetable waste
- Best recipe for a healthy compost
- Carbon to nitrogen ratios
- Compost troubleshooting
- And more!
After sign up you will be sent an email with things to bring and what to wear!
