Modify City Zoning Code to Allow for On-Site Farm and Garden Sales
/City of Atlanta 2021 Farmstand Ordinance
In 2021, Atlanta updated its zoning code to allow for urban farms to sell produce grown on site at farm stands within residential zones, allowing for farms to become a point of sale for fresh food. The City of Atlanta has set a goal for 85% of Atlanta’s residents to live within half a mile of fresh food by 2022, in an effort to reduce food insecurity and encourage a more equitable distribution of fresh food access. The new farm stand ordinance will create economic mobility opportunities for farmers, establish neighborhood hubs for food security, access, and resilience, and support increased food awareness, education, and environmental health.
