COVID19 Response Update: 4/9/2020
/In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Food Well Alliance has cancelled all events and convenings until June 1, 2020. During this time we are focusing our attention on allocating critical resources to our farm and garden partners and creating virtual experiences for metro Atlanta residents who want to remain engaged in the local food community. This blog will be updated with new resources and developments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can also tune into our Instagram Live Stream on Friday at 1 pm for a recap and interviews with farmers and local food organizations.
School Garden Partnership
Food Well Alliance has partnered with the Captain Planet Foundation to coordinate resources for urban growers and farmers while aiding communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This partnership will help address fresh food scarcity across Atlanta by planting and maintaining the 300+ school gardens and 120+ community gardens currently being unused or underused across five metro Atlanta counties. All harvested food will be donated to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, local food pantries, and school neighborhood families.
Plant. Eat. Repeat. Garden Workshop Update
We are getting close to releasing the virtual version of our spring Plant. Eat. Repeat. garden workshop series! Our partners at Atlanta Botanical Garden shared with us a draft of the first video, which focuses on seedlings. We have five more in the works and hope to be releasing them in the next couple of weeks.
Instagram Live
Have you been keeping up with our Instagram page? Every Friday at 1 p.m., we are interviewing local farmers and food organizers on Instagram Live. This week, we are speaking to Eva Dickerson of Thomasville Heights Farm, Katherine Kennedy of Concrete Jungle, and Sara Lamond of Community Farmers Markets.
We’re also getting ready for our first Instagram Live Greenhouse Party featuring DJ Fifthwurld of Nature’s Candy Farms. Be sure to follow our Instagram page to stay up to date!
