East Point City Agriculture Planning
We've come a long way since this time last year when we announced the City of East Point was selected as the pilot city for metro Atlanta's first-ever City Agriculture Planning program. Six months of community engagement were followed by six months of planning sessions with the Atlanta Regional Commission and a Steering Committee comprised of East Point community members, growers and city officials.
A first draft of the East Point City Agriculture Plan was presented at the final Steering Committee planning meeting last week. ARC is now working on finalizing the plan, after which it will go to the City of East Point Planning and Community Development departments and City Council for approval.
Bucket Brigade Heads to Clarkston
This week, we delivered bucket gardens, seeds and nutrition guides to 37 families in Clarkston in partnership with the Clarkston Food Initiative.
Volunteer Workdays
This month, we hosted 30 volunteers - following CDC safety guidelines - for a total of 90 hours at Tapestry Garden, a garden we manage in DeKalb County. All produce grown at Tapestry is donated to local food pantries. July produce donations from the garden were delivered to the DEAM food pantry in Decatur, Toco Hills Community Alliance in DeKalb County and the Westside Future Fund pantry in Atlanta.
Plant a Row for the Hungry
During this time of unprecedented need, Food Well Alliance is stepping up our support for the Plant a Row for the Hungry campaign. So far, over 75,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables have already been donated to food pantries by community gardens, home gardeners, and local farmers in metro Atlanta!
Would you like to donate your extra produce for people in need? There's still time to get involved! Learn about drop-off locations and more at our Plant A Row webpage.
